New Z800 to be made in Thailand?

But a new “domestic made” bike that is heaver, power restricted and has much less warranty and has an estimated price of 399K Baht I believe is not “competitive” to its closest overall market competitor (the Ducati 795 @ 400K THB)

Kawasaki Thailand must target the price for the Z800 between the Ninja 650 (269K THB) and the Ducati 795 (400K THB) thus a price for the Z800 should be closer to 335K THB

Otherwise they are just wasting their time.

Also, surely with the “domestic” Z800 being released the need for the “imported” Z1000 is no longer required at the ridiculous price of 591K THB !

But, all is still pure speculation until Kawasaki Thailand pushes the first Z800 onto their showroom floors and put the actual for sale price on it.

Cheers

FWIW, the Z1000 is the "cheapest" 1000cc motorcycle sold in Thailand, and it's been a good seller thus far. But indeed, if the Z800 becomes available here for ~3xx,xxx, I could see it biting into sales of the Z1000... Time will tell!

If Kawasaki Thailand gives the Z800 to the local market with the full unrestricted 83Kw (111 Hp) then they will be onto something.

If the restrict it like they can do very easy ex-works (like the Z800E in the UK - 70 Kw or 93 Hp) and it starts to look not so attractive (and very close to the HP of the domestic made Ducati 795) thus the overall comparison gap narrows.

2 years standard factory warranty will be very good (if you don’t have to pay for any 1 year + extended warranty plan)

Finger Crossed for Kawasaki Thailand and market common sense prevailing

Agreed! I would like to think that Kawasaki learned from the ZX10R that sold miserably, that the Thai market is not interested in restricted bikes. The Z1000 is not restricted so let's hope the same will be true for the Z800. Let's wait and see if the ZX14R, imported from Japan is Japan spec (restricted) or full power. All motorcycles sold by Kawasaki, Thailand come with 2 year unlimited warranty.

The A2 learner license Euro restricted bikes will be less than 20% of production according to My pal Alf who is a Kwak dealer in UK,its kawasakis best selling bike in Europe average 15,000 sales a year in EU alone , unlikely that restricted version will vbe sold in thailand

competitor bikes in EU middle weight nakeds are Yamaha FZ 800, Triumph street triple ,ducati monster, MV buitale 675 and 800, suzy bandit 650, bmw 800r. apprillia shiver 750

Thanks Monsterman!

So, here in Thailand I guess the only bikes that are in the same class as the Z800 would be the Monster 795, the BMW F800R and the Yammie FZ8? I've found one comparison review where they include the Triumph Street Triple in the competition.

I've never seen a F800R in Thailand. Cool looking bike, wonder if any have been sold here and what it costs in Thailand?

The FZ8 is basically a sleeved down FZ1 which I guess explains why it weighs 212Kg. Max power from the 779cc FZ8 is reported to be 106Hp.

The FZ8 has received pretty good reviews, but as it's imported from Japan it's a bit dear, at 480k Baht. With the odd pricing of import bikes here in Thailand I'm guessing most buyers will scrape together an extra 110k Baht and go for the FZ1.

Compared to Honda's 460K baht NC700X with less than half the power the price is not too bad...

Had coffee with a Thai friend this morning who met some Kawasaki bigwigs he was at Uni with on a recent trip to BKK and they told him more than 300k but less than 350k. Also mentioned a Z250, a naked Ninja 250, will be released this year too.

When do you guys think you will be able to put an order in? ,through your experience do you think there will be the same amount of interest shown to the Z800 as there was for the versys. I am going to Udon Thani in next month for my 1st service for the Versys, i am going to ask if i can put my name down now,,,Do you think this is possible? or is it still just people listening to hearsay about the Z800 coming to LOS

Despite not publicly confirming it, the Kawasaki management KNOW it will be released soon so I'm sure they'd take a deposit, they have done in Chiang Mai. For peace of mind maybe have the receipt worded correctly with a maximum price you'd be happy to pay, if it is released higher than that then you get a full refund.

Sorry for deviating from the Z800 topic but this is the second time "Indonesia" popped up. They also announced the naked CB150R based on the CBR150R.

What's the deal with Indonesia? Do they have plants to assemble motorcycles like Thailand does?

Why would they get certain models other countries in the area don't?

That would be good value if true as The full faired Kawasaki 650 with that 20% increase is now 290thou which in 2 years has gone up over $1000 US.
I know there was a model change but in most country s the price has dropped but not here up up up.
I don't know what the versys will be now with the price increase but if that 800cc bike is 350 or less that would be a huge surprise and very welcome.
This would be much better value than a 650 Ninja.
I just cant see that price being right but I hope im wrong as I would love an 800 for less than 350.

I forgot about the increases , ime glad you mentioned that, yes 350k does sound a great buy,, i ended up paying 300k on the road for the Versys with the insurance etc,, i think ile wait and see what the actual on the road price is now before i commit myself i was using my heart not my head , theres no rush i havnt broken the Versys in yet.
I wonder what the eventual price is of the versys is now, there seems alot of confusion over the new tax rule, 20% is for bikes over 800cc is this correct,, ide like to see to see the revised price list. But seeing this is Thailand you my wait and the government could suggest another price hike for bigger bikes.Does anyone know a site which gives the latest prices the ones ive got off the net are still quoting 2012 prices

Here are the newly revised prices for Kawasaki, Thailand's selection of bikes (don't ask me why the KX250 and KX450 are on the list as they're not sold in Thailand...)

Thanks Tony,
I was in luck there i paid 285,000 for the Versy , its now 313,000 i would be very surprised to see the Z800 at 350,000 or under, it makes it look like the guys who bought the early Thailand Versys a real bargain, they seem to have gone up in price at an incredible rate in the last 2 years. It must affect 2nd hand sales prices..ide of thought.

I wonder why the 250s are about the same while the 650s went up way more?

They are all below 800cc.

Well done Tony with those prices you have posted.
With those massive increases in prices just imagine how Ducati and Triumph will look.
A 1.2million Ducati is now ?
Those shops will suffer and big bikes in this country have just taken a massive backward step.
May be this is what the GOVERNMENT wants who knows.
No imports and big prices on big bikes that will do it.
Happy Biking if you can afford to buy one now.:happy3:

Tony, The KX 250 & 450 Motocross Bikes will be sold in Thailand coming in the Next Month or so? I was inquiring at CM Kawasaki recently about any Bigger Dirt Bikes in the Future and they told Me then. I can't see them selling many? Now a Street Legal KLX450 YES!

That's exciting news! Of course, the KX series are race bikes and not road legal, but still, great to have more models to choose from, even if they are not road legal.

Yes, there are people with questions and people with answers!

Best is to inquire at your closest dealer since the BKK prices may vary depending on location.

Here in Songkhla Hondas are 1,000 THB more expensive than 30km down the road in Hat Yai.

Couldn't agree more on a KLX450.. What are they thinking..
Much bigger market if you can ride it on the road...

I msg Kawa udon last night via Facebook.. Confirmed not for the road, race bike.
But having said that.. While waiting for a reply.. Did some googling.. There are kits for the bike to make them road legal..
Of course.. emissions controls etc etc etc.. But up to you if you want to try.. Will stick with the KLX 250 for now..
