No, they are not, as a couple of minutes googling will tell you.

The CB500X curb weight (includes all standard equipment, required fluids and full tank of fuel - ready to ride) is 195 kg (430 punds) while the Ninja 650 is 208 kg (260 pounds) wet.

The naked CB500F is 190 kg (420 pounds) wet.
 
^ +1, good to see them keeping these bikes away from the franchise dealers and selling them only through the official Honda Big Wings.

Still the 650's put out ~72Hp to the 500's ~47Hp, so power to weight is definitely in Kawasaki's favor.
 
For people interested in a sports bike, the CBR 500 looks pretty damn depressing. Heavier and less power than my 20 year old VFR 400cc, and judging from the pictures, doesn't look much like a sports bike either. Why they did not call it CBR 500 RR? Presumably to avoid making it look competly ridicolous compared to their proper racing-replica bikes.

Still waiting for somebody to start selling locally produced sports bikes here, so I can retire my VFR 400. :-/

plenty of bikes here . ducati z1000 cbr1000rr you just need to pay the price. Thailand is a pimple on hondas ass and they are marketing to the world masses.
Obviously they think a low powered 500 is going to sell better at a low price then a new inline 4

If you can wait a little longer the Thai-manufactured Z800 should become available for purchase in Thailand, hopefully in 2013.


A proper inline 4 that cranks out 113 Hp and weighs 229Kg. Sounds like a winning recipe to me! :happy1:

In fact the CBR500R is really good value for money. There is nothing that comes even close to it here in Thailand.

You get 500cc with 47HP for 205,000 THB

I believe that the baby Ninja that is available here in Thailand has 250 CC with 27HP (or so?) for 147,000 THB (or so?)

The Nija 250 is a bit more by now, 153,000 or so.

But - the more you pay, the more you get, and the Er6n with 650cc and around 70 hp is only 235,000 baht (the last time I checked).
For riders who want power that's the better deal.
For beginners or older farts like me who are happy with a 160 km/h top speed and prefer a good gas mileage over acceleration the Honda is right.

But what about bang for the buck?

Kawasaki - ER-6n at 250,000: 3,470 THB / HP
Honda - CBR500F at 200,000: 4,255 THB / HP

HP is not the end-all, be-all but I wanted to know ;)
 
power is not everything my Ducati has 118bhp but 95% of the time only 50% gets used and thats mostly torque ,
the new Hondas interest me a lot as a second bike .

At the Motor Expo here in BKK they told me they would start delivering bikes within this month. I will go to BIg Wing BKK this weekend and maybe buy/order one.

Most probably I will go for the X, I have to say that the looks of the other 2 models is better but here in LOS the X will be a great bike. Also like the standard Pirelli tyres.

ER6n is THB 250,000
ER6f is THB 265,000

Correct my Ducati has 100bhp and 75.9 lb-ft of torque. Together with a smaller front sprocket the bike is quite fast.
