IN CHIANG SAEN
1. KRUA CHIANG SAEN Restaurant. Another big thumbs up for this place.
Excellent value for money, superb food, big servings low prices.
River side on the 'Khong, opposite Gin's Ghouse at the Golden Triangle end of town!
The Happy Go Lucky Girlfriend singer, who knows her food, insisted we eat there again. And we did last night: huge fish, fresh fresh vegies & tasty spicy Thai salads. And very inexpensive. Check it out. Highly recommended!

CHIANG SAEN
The Mong Doo Nam cafe & bakery. Good coffee, cakes & breakfast. Riverside upstream from the police station, & a cool spot to hang out in Chiang Saen to "mong doo nam."

The Krua Chiang Saen. 27th July 2010. A full moon dinner by the 'Khong.

By the end of next month, August 2010, the Krua Chiang Saen will have moved, 300 metres upstream, as the lease is up & not being renewed.
Check 'em out. Delicious fish & vegetables always.

I'll second David's recommendation of Krua CS. Been there many times & never had a bad meal yet. Well priced & very good service.

The Mong Doo Nam also sells GT Rider maps, so if you ever need one & are in the area Do Pop into the Mong Do Nam. :thumbup:

Super tasty Coffee - Hilkoff!!

a mediocre brekky, but open early & worth it just for the Hillkoff coffee.

THE HUT at the Mae Khong View Resort - Hotel

A nice coffee shop with a view

a cheap brekky

good coffee, but the toast was a let down

however it is as good as it gets in Chiang Saen, unless you slip out to Ian Yonok's Viang Yonok resort by the lake.

Something a bit different - a Vietnamese restaurant in Chiang Saen.

The official name

Some tasty Kanom Jeen to confirm that the place lives up to its name.

Bright 'n clean - spotlessly clean.

Some delicious green Viet spring rolls to go with the decor.

The Viang Yonok seal of approval.

The restaurant closes at 5PM, so you need to make it a lunch stop.

Location: Sai 1 Road. 650 metres back from the River - the 2nd set of traffic lights away from the river. Come from the river west & turn left at the 2nd set of lights. Go 100 metres & it is on the left (East) side of Sai 1 road.

Pha Ngao coffee - at Wat Phra That Pa Ngao temple 4 kms downstream from Chiang Saen.

Worth the ride or the view + add in the coffee

The Famai

downtown, riverside, slightly upstream.

a bright 'n breezy, cheerful place for cheap "fast food."

Something fresh, Thai & spicy for the pillion pax

a "Carbonara steak" with mushroom sauce for the rider

something different, but not something that I'd order again.

But overall a handy place worth a quick pit stop for a drink & bite to eat "on the run."

Great coffee + the gf was happy with her brekky

and if you're a tea drinker - loads of top teas for a sip or two.

& the food is still tops & gets my vote for the best in Chiang Saen - 0ver the Krua Cham Cha, but the KCC has a much more convenient location downtown, whilst the Krua Chiang Saen is a bit out of town, 2.3 kms upstream from the main junction in town by the police.

De Balcony

A "newish" smart clean restaurant - cafe.

Spotlessly clean & green.

The new fashion tourist attraction of "skywalks" is catching on fast with multiple sites around the country. The latest one to be opening soon is at Wat Phra That Pa Ngao, downstream from Chiang Saen. Construction only started 2 weeks ago, but they expect to be open at Songkran with a soft...
