Located 6 km west of the Golden Triangle, nestled in a quiet forest, is the Sridonmoon Art Gallery, the home of Sriwan Janehuttakarnkit.
Born on December 28, 1953, in Bangkok, Ajarn Sriwan is a prominent Thai artist renowned for her contributions to contemporary art.
She studied at Silpakorn University in Bangkok to complete her studies in 1976 and 1979, with both a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Graphic Arts.
From 1996 to 2009, she served as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, in Bangkok.
In 1997 she received a fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation.
In 2002 she received the Silpha Bhirasri Creativity Grant.
Sriwan has exhibited her work both domestically and internationally. Overseas it has been showcased at the Espace Pierre Cardin in Paris, the Pacific Asia Museum in California, and the German Contemporary Graphic Arts exhibition in West Germany. She was also a significant organiser of the Thailand Biennale, Chiang Rai 2023.
Around 2004, seeking tranquility and inspiration, Sriwan relocated to Ban Sri Don Moon in Chiang Rai province.
There, she established the Sri Don Moon Art Space.
This space not only serves as her residence but also as a venue where visitors can appreciate her paintings and works of art.
Sriwan's art is characterised by vibrant colours and often reflects themes inspired by nature, Lanna cultural elements, and Buddhist teachings.
Her works encompass a variety of mediums, including paintings, sculptures, and ceramics, showcasing her versatility and depth as an artist.
