Did the Samoeng loop on 5th Feb.2012 with a passenger and a friend on another CB400. I never get tired of the view from the pagota.

Nice thread. This loop is where make I sure I can still ride a Mr Mechanic bike in Thailand before heading off on a summer tour. It's for lazy days in CM with nothing to do and for days when I can't bear to leave the bike standing in the hotel car park when I've paid for the hire.

I finally did the Samoeng loop (clockwise) and it was GREAT!

Stopped for coffee and decided to eat some pad prick moo. Total damage 75 baht

Refreshed, I'm back and the road and pull off at the first "Scenic" area. Looks like a private drive. Park the bike on soft soil, so I take care to not let the bike lean to far to the left, kick stand side. I take a pic and hear a thud. Horrified, I turn to see my bike on it's right side. WTF!?! Level ground, no one else around and it falls over away from the kick stand?? Soft soil, so the only damage is the right mirror, its broken at the O part of the arm. Argggg! Throw the pices under the seat and motor on. Except, I'm totally lost with no right mirror!

The obligatory pic :)

Beautiful day at the overlook.

Remember that Canadian TV show Red Green? "Well if the women don't find you handsome, at least they'll find you handy." Yeah, I'll
admit it, I super glued my mirror...

Eureka! It worked- and got me back to town. Sunday and the Honda shops are closed.

Love the curves.

Really fun day, even with my bone head unstable parking. Not really windy, so the soft soil must have allowed the bike to settle, it a direction I hadn't planned on. Oh well, live, learn and ride on!

Not the conventional photo points, maybe some things that one does not have so much time to see when negotiating the curves and the sometimes inconsiderate traffic.

The locals prove that you do not need the latest most powerful machines to enjoy these roads, nice cornering technique
I'm with the locals on this. My Honda Wave 125i is more than sufficient. There are times when I miss my old Kawasaki Vulcan 900 but for rides like this, I am happy with the Wave.

Viethorse and Hanh from Vietnam didn't fly out until the afternoon after their MHS loop ride earlier this month, so Dave and I took them for a quick whack around the Samoeng Loop-

I nice little ride! You folks in Chiang Mai are fortunate to have such a great road right on your doorstep! :happy1:
