Great place to stay in Tak - Suan Sin Hotel

TakJune08xxx.jpg

Air-con rooms, quiet garden setting, breakfast (coffee and toast) included...350 baht!

Very friendly 70-year-old Thai owner; must be the best deal in Thailand.

There are two Suansin hotel locations in Tak; I usually stay at the one which is located on hwy 104 (see previous map posted) at the intersection of Hwy-1.
The two hotels are now run by the founders son, Nat; his elderly father has since passed away.

When I travel north to Chiang Mai, etc. I often have overnighted at the other Suansin Resort on Hwy 104, which is a little nicer (newer) than
the one indicated in the previous post.
All rooms have comfortable queen sized beds, not a Thai rock hard mattress, H/W, TV, Refrig and free and fast (600-kB/s+) WiFi.
A/C rooms currently priced at 380-Bt, Fan rooms 250-Bt
A free breakfast buffet each morning in the lobby: coffee/tea/juice, toast/butter/jam, sweet rolls, etc.
There is also a restaurant on site, mainly Thai/Chinese cuisine...meals 40-Bt +

The Rommanee Hotel

A huge "garden resort" with a huge concrete car park, on the quieter west side of the River.

Rooms & bungalows
480 baht for upstairs & 500 baht for the ground floor rooms.
Get a ground floor one!

Clean, quiet aircon, "solid" beds.

Viangtak Hotel
A Thai town on a river always has some decent restaurants / pubs / hotels adjacent to the water, and Tak is no exception.

The Viangtak Hotel ticks all the boxes in the "classic" sense of what an old Thai hotel should offer the traveling public - the quintessential "one stop shop" type of hotel!
  • Restaurant/s
  • Thai massage
  • Karaoke
  • Nightclub
  • Swimming pool
  • A bath with hot water in the bathroom
  • A mini-bar, for that urgent "quick cold beer" while the bath is running
  • Patio with a water view for sundown beers

It's aging and some aspects are a little tired but the rooms are spacious, the beds are very comfortable and everything is within walking distance.

Rates:
The room rate was 1200 THB but includes an expansive buffet breakfast.

  • The night market starts right outside on the town side of the hotel.
  • The Saturday morning market extends along the waterfront from the hotel to the Highway 12 bridge.
It is also easy to find, being the largest building on the waterfront, and has extensive parking on both east and west side, with security.

Home Inn -Tak

Location: facing the Ping River front, approximately 1km from the Highway 1 bridge
- Google Maps

Room Rate: July - 380 baht for a double room

The Hotel also operates a cafe/bar alongside the hotel, and this seems very popular with "locals" as well as hotel patrons.

I found a great place to stay in Tak; Home Paradise Homestay. Home Paradise Resort

Run by an Italian, Delio and his Thai wife. It is a little out of town to the NE, off highway 12 at;
N 16 deg 53.457' E 99 deg 09.539'

2018-11-14 17.20.20.jpg

It has a swimming pool and large courtyard area.

The room was fine for 1200 baht.

But best of all was Delio himself. Quite a character and very friendly. Real Italian from Ravenna.

He cooked me a great proper Italian meal. Spaghetti Carbonara with chunky imported Italian bacon and hand carried Italian parmesan cheese plus home made bread.
He advised putting lots of olive oil on the salad, Italian style.....

Definately my first choice of accommodation, if staying in Tak again.

For a cheap and clean overnight stop, an option is the concrete-box business hotel Silayok Grand, at 16.872232,99.129918. I stayed there seven times. It is 400B if you walk in, book by phone (if you speak Thai) on 055-515555, or book on LINE (in simple English) at ID: silayokgrand. There is no shelter for the bike and location is boring, but it’s between two 7-11s, next to a biker restaurant with good food (and an English menu) and usually a Harley or two parked in front, and a 15 minute walk from the Lotus and Big C malls on Highway 1. I think the price includes a basic breakfast, but I never tried it because I like to depart early and it's fastest to eat in the room while I’m getting ready to ride.

This Thai guy and his partner parked next to me and left all this stuff on his bike overnight. I guess security isn't much of a problem. The parking lot isn't gated but there is a guard who walks around at night.
