Import Motorcycle To Laos And Extend The Permit

Hello,
i just started working in Laos and i will be here for 2 years. Can i import my motorcycle (kawasaki versys x 250) to laos? And regarding the import permit, i read in this forum that you probably would only get 2 weeks or 4 weeks import permit in Laos. Can it be extended periodically? Or there is another way to do it? Thanks...
 
I guess you are on a work permit visa and that might make things a bit tricky.
 
There are two issues.
Validity of export permit from Thailand.
Validity of import permit into Laos.

The last I heard it was maximum 1,000 baht fine for export over stay from Thailand.
For Laos it will depend on the officials when you enter, at first you can get one month would be the best you could hope for.
After that you need an extension, and I'm not sure what the daily fee for that is now. It was officially 200 baht a day, but...
If you're working for a "big company" in Laos, they maybe able to help you with the paperwork & extension of stay in Laos. There are agents who could facilitate this.

Failing all this contact Fuark in Vientiane about buying one of his bikes.

i planned to import my own motorcycle (indonesian registered) directly from indonesia probably using air freight cargo and using it as long as i stay here in Laos.
Is the initial TIP and the extention TIP done by the same agents (the freight forwarding agents which i used to import my motorcycle)? or is there any certain agencies that specialized in dealing with both initial and extending the TIP?

I would try asking these guys

especially if you're intending to fly the bike in.
But why not see what you get through Fuark in Vientiane, less hassle & cheaper?
 
As your bike is 250cc and under, you can bring it into Laos and register it here. I did it with a Japanese import. It costs about $1500 so not cheap, and Fuark knows some good agents that do all the running for you - it is fixed so that it is no cheaper if you try to do it yourself, just takes longer. This includes import tax and Lao plates and you don't need any previous import paperwork or any papers at all. Also, you cannot register in your own name, so you need a Lao friend or someone you trust.
