RIDE & TRIP REPORT by David Unk.
A fine weather departure from Chiang Khong at 12.30PM.
Mae Chan & Panor Coffee was the first stop to say hi" and have a quick bite to eat.
(Mae Chan Restaurants)
From the Panor, its R1089 up the valley to Kiu Sataa and the Doi Mae Salong turnoff, then downhill to Tha Ton.
As luck would have it light rain started once you got up out of the valley and then through that treacherous mountain pass, where I played it safe & rode downhill gently in first gear to avoid any slip-ups & "oops did it again" moments. I'm glad I survived.
In Fang at the PTT for a break & fuel top-up, it was bright and sunny again.
The time was 4pm, so my ETA for Chiang Dao would be about 5:30pm.
The run down 107 from Chai Prakarn was fabulous, with clean, dry roads and lovely green foliage everywhere.
A few slow-moving trucks backed up the traffic a couple of times, but it was one of my most enjoyable rides on 107 through the Chiang Dao - Chai Prakarn twisties ever!
Straight to The View for some refreshment and to catch up with the crew.
5.45 pm was the time.
And what a sensational view the View Rooftop Bar has. Incredible.
Franz said a 360-degree view, and he was well and truly right!
It's been years since I had a night in Chiang Dao, and I could never imagine such a rooftop bar viewing "old Chiang Dao."
For it is no longer old & perhaps getting gentrified?
Dusk completed, and with darkness starting to fall, it was time to head off for dinner at the Cojon restaurant Franz recommended.
Being a late arrival, I opted to race off to get my hotel room next & meet up at the Cojon in a quick 20 minutes.
The place I selected was the PY solely on account of its cheap price with undercover parking.
Dry it was when I left the View, and dry it was when I left the PY, but between the PY and the Cojon down came the rain, and I arrived at the dinner venue all wet!
The Cojon night was excellent, with superb food as previously mentioned, plus good service and some really nice live background music.
A note on the fat female singer. She had a super crystal-clear voice singing English language songs.
For 13 years in Chiang Mai, I lived with arguably the best English language singer, and the gal singing at the Cojon was not far off from Meow's voice!
Well worth checking out!

The night out in Chiang Dao was a charmer, and I wouldn't mind another there anytime en route to/from Chiang Mai.
Thank you, Franz, for brilliant research and organisation.
