I have been using ear canal inserts from the hardware shop sold under brand name Giant Kingkong for ฿38

These plugs work well for me, reducing annoying frequencies, but at the same time allowing me to listen to music via my Cardo bluetooth. Unfortunately the stalk for removing the plug does tend to need careful positioning so as not to catch on my helmet lining.

In the quest for an alternative I am now trying soft silicone ear plugs. This type doesn't get inserted into the inner ear, rather inserted into the outer ear.

Sold under the brand name 'Yamada' purchased from Fascino Chemist for ฿75

Yamada are swidgy soft for moulding to the correct shape each time. Reusable and washable.

They have enough tack and mouldability to stay in place and feel very comfortable. It can be a bit fiddly to get a balanced moulding feel between left and right ears. I have found myself stopping and remoulding to get the balance correct.

For me Yamada frequency protection is fantastic, but so much so I cannot hear my music via Cardo anymore.

For hearing protection when I want music, I'm going to cut the stalk to reduce the length on the Giant King Kong. I will use the Yamada for rides where I want greater frequency protection and no music.

Thanks Wayne

I ordered a couple of pairs ฿49 /pairt o try out.I 'm very impressed with their price to comfort and sound reduction ratio.

The silcone is super soft. Insertion and removal is easy. Comfort is OK but I feel a little bulk in size in my outer ear. Inner ear is perfectly comfortable as the inserted silicone is feather thin.

No major issues with helmet pressure on the plugs. I do get some change in sound reduction if I move my jaw or ride over rough ground, probably due to my outer ear/jaw moving against the inserted outer ear section of the plug.

As for sound reduction I can easily hear nice trebles and bass in music playing on Tidal app via Cardo Bluetooth at 3/4 volume.

I can hear talking with a normal voice and plenty of sound reduction of unwanted wind and other noises when riding at all speeds.

I'll be keeping and using these plugs for sure.

In my quest for ear comfort, unwanted noise reduction, listening to music and all day comfort I next purchased Alpine Motosafe Pro earplugs at a whopping ฿1642 from Lazada

The MVAugusta of earplugs!

In the box comes a small pouch with one pair of each 'race' and 'tour' filtered earplugs, an insertion tool and some cleaning liquid.

These are the most comfortable plugs I've trialed so far. Fantastic.

The lack of bulky outer ear section requires use of the tool to insert into the inner ear. Removal is by the little stalk. All straight forward and effective.

The 'tour' allows me to hear music very well, but with some treble loss (but not enough to spoil the sound). The tuned plug filter is very very effective.

The 'race' version reduced external unwanted noise very effectively but I couldn't really hear my music on my Cardo Bluetooth even at 100% volume.

Both pairs of Apline plugs are made of some material other silicone. Claimed to last over 100x but I've read comments about the material eventually swelling. Maybe it's from sebecious oil absorption?

These are a keeper and I will use them most often. You can read more about Alpine motorcycle earplugs here
