Cant get proper insurance anymore

I have had full 2nd class Fire and theft insurance in Thailand for 5 years on my Ducati including bail bond now the insurance companies say i can only get government insurance and third party with bail bond as bike is too old its a 2001 machine worth 350,000 so no more fire and theft cover but premium stays same ??????? Crazy country eh.
 
Not sure its crazy but certainly different. I have some Thai friends who unnoficially rent out their cars, standard insurance, regular claims which seem to be accepted by the insurers. Other Thais seem to assume that they must put their vehicle in at the end of every insurance year for all small dents scratches to be repaired. So no real concept of building up a no claims bonus.
Muang Thai insure my BMW, done via BMW finance. 1 year old still insured for 950K Baht, so quite good, cost came down by 1000 Baht from previous as lower sum insured, but could not persuade them to give me a discount for no claim in last 12 months.
They also do not have any idea of driver experience or age risk. Same cost for a young lad as for old gits like me. Very different from UK where the companies know the accident potential of the different agegroups and charge accordingly.
Its still a young industry over here, interesting to see how it develops as more higher powered bikes hit the roads and the insurance companies start to build up some data. Maybe move to insuring the driver as well as considering the vehicle.
 
I am in the same boat of bike being 'too old' to insure it fully.. Of course if it was a tractor they have specialist harley insurance but not for my machine.

While I believe you reside in Pattaya, if you haven't you might want to check with AA Insurance...located on street by the side (south) entrance to Big-C South. Maybe they can help....

AA Insure also handles needs for members of the local expat clubs and ThaiVisa
 
And they also do not offer 1st class on older machines (more than 10 years) unless as livin sez its a tractor (HD). Monsterman.I'm suprised you could not get 2nd class insurance thou. I'm sure i got quoted 2nd class for a 91 bike

I spoke to AA first and they could not help ,they have been my bike insurer for 6 years , then my wife went to, Viraya ,Eagle ,Acanai and AIA non would cover as an 8 year old bike is too old!

Only offered 3rd class by all companies????? = third party only with medical for passanger not rider ....no fire ,theft or bailbond???????!!!!!!! not much more than the government insurance but 3000 baht more!!!!!

I will just have government insurance in that case .
