Khong Chiam to Ubon Ratchathani
Up early for sunrise today, well half of our group, the others weren't interested in getting up early
...........................whats special about sunrise here is that it is the 1st part of Thailand to see the sun of a morning
After we checked out of the hotel in Khong Chiam we left and headed to a Temple near the Laos border that glows in the dark, its called Wat Sirindhorn Wararam, obviously would of been better at night but Mike decided against this as we were doing the sunrise, oh well there is always next time
From the Temple you can see Laos in the background, no more Mekong River as the border here, its now a land border............................................

Back on the bikes and our next stop was another quaint little coffee shop, at 1st we thought it was closed, but nope, the owner was at her house behind, she was happy to haveour group come into her shop........................
All refreshed we rode to our next destination, yep another Temple, this one is called Wat Phuuphalarnsoung and has a few different sites, which were accessed by sandy roads up the side of a hill, very remote and only a few people about...................................

Khong Chiam to Ubon Ratchathani (Continued)
Our next destination was The Emerald Triangle which gets its name from being the border of three countries, Thailand/Laos/Cambodia, it was alot less developed than our Golden Triangle, infact there is not much infrastructure at all, looks like it was used as an Army border site, along the access paths are signs to warn of no entry to the bush as active landmines are still there
At the bottom of the hill was a beautiful lake, we stopped for 5 min to have a look around, so good having a guide like Mike who has been here multiple times, and he is a walking encyclopedia of places to visit around Thailand, actually I should say South East Asia

From the Emerald Triangle we headed to a lake near Ubon Ratchathani were the locals were enjoying a swim, we only stopped for a few photos and then continued onto Ubon where we were staying for 2 x nights, yep we had a lay day
