Phongsali - Ou Thai - Bosao (chiness border)
I rode this section in Feb 2009, just me and my KLX.
There was no "thank you for visiting Phongsali" sign, so welcome sign will have to do.
A lot of the road from Phongsali to Boun Neua is like this.
Also a short tar section.
What the KLX needs.....a few more horses. Giddy up.
These young kids where a little scared of the alien on the green space ship.
Rice rice baby.
One of the many villages along the way.
Good variations in road surfaces.
Road heading north.
Arrived in Ou Thai, and this town really feels like the wild west.
The town itself is situated of a river nestled in valley, great place to spend a night, as it is a very interesting place to look around.
On the river they carve impressive boats out of logs .
Ou Thai a town of boat building craftsman, and appalling karaoke singers.
Check into the Ou thai Hilton.
When in Ou Thai this is the place to eat, good food and friendly staff. Next door is the karaoke hotspot, were locals seem to drink and attempt to sing 24/7.
Next day packed the bike and headed north to Bosao.
This section didnt take that long because the road is pretty straight, so you can move along pretty quick.
Local gas station in Ou Thai is flat out in the mornings, so best to get your five plastic coke bottles of petrol the night before.
Terraces houses just north of Ou Thai.
There's a lot of these bridges leading from the road across the river to the villages.
You gotta watch out for the rocks when riding in the dust. The roads littered with
rocks/bolders like this one.
The first thing that came to my mind was, what a great place this would be for a stoning.
This striped snake, (stripeus snakeus) was the only snake I seen along the way.
Kwacka and the Quackers......sorry about that.
Peck hour traffic at a river crossing.
Couldn't ride to all the way to the Chinese border, because some put a pipe in the way.
So had to walk the last 400 metres.
This is the border. I was pictureing something a little more spectacular than this.
No flags, just a grumpy camera shy border guard
