Some oldies from the first time I rode the MHS loop, which was also the first time I used a GT Rider map. I noticed this curiosity on the map, 2006 edition, and rode there to have a look.
This souvenir vendor in the village, probably someone David knows, spoke excellent English.
They were arguing. It looks like this guy's in the doghouse tonight:
I must say, it felt weird to pay an admission fee to walk around and watch people going about their day. This was about 17:30 in March, off season, and I was the only tourist there.
Modern girl, maybe working elsewhere and home for a visit:
The next morning, leaving MHS to ride to Cha Am in one day. It was nuts but I wasn't retired and time was tight. I enjoyed the MHS highway then. Very light traffic and I didn't see another big bike on it. I avoid it now because of the traffic and having to pass on curves, and so only ride it very early in the morning.
I guess when the road opened it was unpaved, so it was cheaper to snake the road than bulldoze it straight. And no one could drive the unpaved road fast anyway. Then years later they just paved over the original road so it looked like this. I think they have been straightening it over the years.
