Information received says that there is zero exit from Kenthao - Nam Heuang to Thailand.

I guess that's then for Entry as well??
Where can we actually still cross? My last crossing was Chiang Khong, but I'll not repeat that, Exit there might be an option although.
Need to go for a new Visa in 'bout 5-6 weeks, seems Laos is not an (good) option (anymore).

Why not just have a nice ride down to Mukdaham.

It's only about 2 km away from the bridge, Robinson shopping mall is only 200 meters away.
Do you visa over in Laos, pick up the bike and ride home.
Hello folks, sorry to ask a question thats prob been asked a zillion times but hopig for the latest accurate update as i plan to enter laos in abt 2 weeks.
I am on a Thai registered bike ( more than 500cc )and riding solo. From the info i gathered , currently the only border I can ride across solo into Laos is Chiangkong/HuayXai crossing. After which I plan to exit at either Kenethao/Thali if possible ( which may not be allowed if the latest update from 2 years back is still accurate). If this is not possible I will exit Laos into Thailand by Tha Dua/ Nong Khai ( Friendship Bridge 1 ).
Can anyone shed some light if my entry /exit crossings will pose any problems for a solo bike? Been reading about some crossings needing a group or a guide etc. Very sketchy info out there but i guess thats part of the adventure

Chiang Khong / Houei Xai is ok.
I don't like your chances exiting at Kenthao, but you could exit at Phu Doo.
You can exit at Muang Ngern / Huay Kon.
You maybe able to enter Laos from Nong Khai too now I understand, got late at night 9PM +.

Oh so Muang Ngern/Huay Kon is now opened for entry/exit again. Was reading on an earlier thread that Xayaboury crossings were all closed to motorbikes. Guess there has been another change of laws. Such is the fun of border crossings. You never know what that box of chocolates open to !

@ Phu Doo there is no Lao Visa on arrival, so unless you are Swiss or Thai, you need a visa in advance from a Lao embassy.
But you can exit there no problem.
I've exited a couple of times there, but was refused entry just after it opened not knowing there was no visa on arrival.

Muang Ngern is ok for exit. BUT If I understand correctly they are enforcing the "tour company rule," for entry even if you are one bike.
Thanks for heads up. I am Singaporean and wont need a visa for Laos. Am based in Phitsanulok sometimes so I will try entering Laos from Phu Doo another time. This time I will use it for exit from Laos to head to Phitsanulok
Does anyone have any updates on crossing from Huay Kon to Muang Ngoen with a motorcycle? I know it has been banned since 2016, so just wondering if there has been any change or if any member here has been able to enter Laos via this border crossing. I heard there might be an agency somewhere that could arrange the paper work, even for a solo rider.

I have a GTR contact for the permits, but the issue now is getting a visa on arrival.
Muang Neun was in the list of ports where they were supposed to stop issuing Visas on Arrival.
I've been unable to confirm if that policy has taken effect immediately, or whether it starts on 1st January 2020.
Visa on Arrival is still available at Muang Neun, but to enter on a bike you need to go via a tour company.
Hi All, apologies if this is on the wrong thread. Just a couple of questions. Is the 250cc and above policy enforced if entering Lao using the ferry at Bung kan /Paxsan?. Are the Lao immigration insisting on tour guide groups at this border?

Confirmed from 1st January no Visa on Arrival at Muang Ngern.

The e-Visa so far only works at Friendship Bridges 1 and 2, and at Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Pakse Airports. It is not yet accepted at other points of entry.
A new Xayaboury international border crossing to Thailand was opened on 1st February 2020.
On the Laos side the crossing is called Pangmone
Supposedly there is VoA, Visa on Arrival on the Laos side.
Entry by a motorbike without a tour permit is most likely to be in force.
