Mechanic tested the battery by shorting it

Sparks were flying, the battery became very hot.

I might as well throw it away now - right?

Q2: Before charging it, the neutral LED would dim and there was only a click to be heard. The starter motor wouldn't engage. Sounds like a dead battery. Ma
