We're just back from another great ride in the north.
This was our fifth time, and it was superb as always.
Hard to find so many winding roads anywhere in the world.
Rented the bikes again with Mr Pop and got two brand new bikes to travel with.
We noticed a lot of road damage from the last rainy season.
But can anyone give me advice on which good map for the greater Nan area is usable for trip planning?
We're having the Mae Hong Song Loop map and the Golden Triangle map, but missing the area around Nan.

Ah yes, GTR is still working on the Nan map, a couple of years behind schedule.
GTR was recently about ready to print full size, but the printer needed a minimum of 3000 maps to go ahead.
So GTR found another printer who will print a minimum of 1500 maps, but the size has to reduced 15% to get it fit, plus resize all the fonts and data so it is readable & not over cluttered.
Apologies from GTR.
BTW of the other side will be a new Laos map, which suffered the same reduction & resizing issue.
The Laos map is done, but not the Nan map.
Eventually you will get "two maps in one," with a Chiang Mai - Nan loop on one side and a Laos PDR map on the other.
A win win for most people.

Most four-digit Nan backroads are very good. Ride them all! Pending the GTR map, here are some that could be a starting point. You can find points of interest, hotels, eateries, etc on this site.

That would be a great solution—Nan loop on one side and Laos map on the other side.
In my opinion, the town maps are not used as much now, as it is easy to find on Google.

Agree on the city maps, waste of time nowadays and impossible to keep up with.
The up-country maps are always useful for trip planning & clearly understanding the road network.

Some trip reports on Nan roads ridden.
(Return to Nan & back to the future?)

(Pua & Back - R1148 - the Legends route.)

(Pua - Nan - First World Tai Lue Festival and Conference.)

(Nan-Pua-Phayao-4 nights on the road with my son)

(Return to the Chompoo Phukha trees)

(Snot on Doi Phukha)

(The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Go To Nan)

(Doi Phu Kha national Park and Mani Pruek. “New” trails.)

(LICME and a little test ride)

These links are also useful

GTR needs to do some work on them to update a lot of new info too.

in the past in Nan province I visit the town,Doi Phuka National park, the loop and the street along the border for go direction Loei.
Bo Kkuea was a simple village with manual gasoline station.
Now many place became famous and also accommodation are expensive.
The one exploded is Ban Sapan not far from Bo kluea.
Another nice place is Doi Sakad
I am not expert like David for the name of everythink.
The street also if broken from raining season in many point is very very good for motorcycle
And they are working everywhere for fix it.
Now they are finish near the border for go to Laos.
I use this border in the past only for come back in Thailand.
From Chiang rai enter to Laos from Chiang Khong for me was more easy for get insurance in Laos border
Some fhoto of last week
