Thoed Thai is ok for a dinner as long as the group is not more than 15 people.
There are 2 dining options.
1. Rim Taan GH with food delivered from outside - Lamduan's restaurant, the Krua Fai Kham
2. Ting Ting Restaurant next door to Rim Taan. Ting Ting has some VIP rooms at the back & upstairs.
We can decide on the day where to eat. Happy hour can be at the Rim Taan by the Nam Kham river.
Drinking publicly in the main street as a group is frowned upon in TT, so some discretion is required so as not to invoke any visits from officials.
Beer drinkers should note you can drink at the Rim Taan & Ting Ting, but there's no group drinking openly at the Krua Fai Kham in the main street.
Thanks in advance for everyone's respect for the local community & the associated health aspects at this tricky time.
If anyone has a vax certificate, bring a copy on your phone just in case; but I don't expect an checks.

The previous Thoed Thai dinner was a ripper

Special Event
For those who do come & who are interested in history, there should be a very special event in Thoed Thai on Thursday morning, that is related to Thoed Thai's history.
I say should because not all the arrangements were in place & confirmed today, Saturday 23rd October, & it is only 5 days to go.
You will know on the day & I will divulge the info on Wednesday in Thoed Thai, once I know more.

To confirm the riverside bungalows at Rim Taan are all full now. There are rooms available away from the river.

They confirm they have rooms booked for
1. David Unk
2. Tom Z
3. Mike R
4. Graham.
5. Chris Maple.
6. Ian Bungy.

The contact phone number is 053 730 209 for anyone else.
The limit of 15 people was a recommendation from John, anymore than 20 he may have to advise the local health department with checks & details required.
There is plenty of other accommodation if Rim Taan fills up.

I was coming from a night on Doi Lang, & the Chiang Mai contingent successfully gate crashed my date at the Hom Pan Din vineyard restaurant, so we all hooked up again at Doi Mae Salong before the run into Thoed Thai.

The Phumaketawan Resort was the DMS rendezvous spot.
With excellent convenient parking & stunning views this spot has become a GTR favourite & a contender for a future GTR dinner perhaps.

The rendezvous spot was the Rim Taan GH.
Happy hour was well under way with Hoghead, Brian & Steve, Tom & the Hawk, by the time the rest of rabble turned up.
It was great to see, meet & welcome the Hawk & Alex to the GTR up-country dinners.
We hope you enjoyed yourselves & continue to come every month, as you both seemed to slot right in as old hands.

Dinner was next door & upstairs at the Ting Ting. A dining option I never knew they had.

The food was abundant, with offers of more declined by everyone - stuffed we all were.

With a nice stock of cold beer in the fridge at the Rim Taan, perfectly acquired by Hoghead, we quickly retired back there to ensure there were no left overs. It was a long night & indeed I was the last one to bed.

Day 2 in Thoed Thai & a meander round Khun Sa's old camp, plus a couple of wats.

Originally there was a planned special event at Khun Sa's camp, the 1st annual merit making service on the anniversary of his passing. Khun Sa is still respected for what he did for the people of Thoed Thai.

However on the day the event did not take place, exactly why no one seems to know. Only the TT kamnan knows. But on the day we arrived in TT, and unknown to us at the time, there was a covid-19 outbreak at the TT school, with 5 teachers & 10 students being positive. Naturally there was great concern throughout the community & there were scores of students gathered on the local football pitch for mass testing that morning. It would be quite understandable that no ceremony was held that morning.

A few pics at the site

The old museum is normally closed, but on the day the caretaker was waiting for us with a key. A friend of GTR had phoned in to ask for the museum to be opened.
1635616674582.png

Sadly it is normally closed due to it's dilapidated state.

The Shan history on display is fascinating & only makes you feel sad, a reminder of how screwed up Myanmar is. The once powerful glorious Shan state now in tatters.

A couple of old hands checked out a couple of wats......

Wat Phrathat Kha Kham was founded by the famous Crow brothers, Shan traders, with ox cart caravans working their way to and fro through the region.

GTR Has a favourite monk at this wat & we gained the usual greeting with a pic request from Phra Kob.

Blessings also followed inside

Wat Phra Songchai Ratanapalangphuang. Home of a giant bronze Buddha.

And a huge bell.

Check it out sometime

& that wraps up my GTR Dinner ride in Thoed Thai.
Thanks everyone who came. Let's hope we can get them all going again "post-covid" & continue to enjoy the good life here like it should be. Riding, enjoying great roads & rides, warm friendly hospitable locals, the local culture & history, plus the genuine camaraderie of our fellow biker mates.
