Hello,

I am back in Thailand and again rented an automatic Honda Click 125 i.

This year I'd like to explore the Doi Ang Khan area - but do not know, what I can do savely on an automatic Scooter (riding alone, but with a backpack strapped to the backseat).

I thougt about starting in Chiang Dao, using the 1178 (shouldn't be a problem), take the 1340 (rather steep in the end?) and go down by the 1249 (steep at the start). Also there are a lot of roads a bit north of the 1249 - no idea, how steep they are. I got time, so I can do detours etc., start at the 1249 or go back the same road I came to avoid steep roads. I suppose all those roads are sealed. Of course I use the new Golden Triangle Loop Map from GT-Riders :)

Furthermore my current landlord advised me, there might be some trouble at the Myanmar border and maybe going there is not save at the moment?

Can you help me again with some suggestions?

Thanks a lot,
Monika

The Click will do just fine. But since its impossible to know how fresh the brake fluid is, be prepared to lose one or both brakes. You will get a warning feel in the lever(s) moments before, that mean its time to brake to halt immediately and let them cool down for say 15 min. If you recognize the feel you will be able to stop.

I would not recommend riding a Honda Click down R1249, but up.

Take extra care if you do.

Hi,
I meanwhile found and read the thread about the steepest roads, so I realized I would not ride anywhere north of Doi Ang Khang (Nor Lae) and not go down the 1249.
So if you think, I can ride up the 1249 I will try and ride down via 1340 and 1178 to Chiang Dao.
Thanks a lot again :)

The "extra care" is for riding up, I suppose?

Yes I think you should be ok going up 1249 & south along 1340. Nor Lae is definitely a No No, as is a 1249 descent.
You may even struggle getting up the long climbs up 1249.

In the end I went the 1340 both ways - it was a great ride even though the weather was not perfect and I felt save doing it :)
Thanks for your help.
