Sad news in Mae Hong Son last night. A huge fire at the main intersection & the end of Crossroads Pub.

One of north Thailand's most famous pubs & a legendary biker hang out on the Mae Hong Son Loop.

There were several businesses. Fortunately there was no loss of life.

This is too sad. It feels & looks like Mae Hong Son has had its heart ripped out.

More news to come when I can get some...what will Mu do to recover?
He already has the Crossroads House so may just base himself there.

The Crossroads Pub was on friendship lease arrangement Mu had with the owner - never to modify the building, but look after it as part of Mae Hong Son's heritage.
What happens to that site will be up to the owner.

Fire destroys iconic wooden building in Mae Hong Son

A big fire destroyed an iconic building at the centre of Mae Hong Son province, including the house of a Phalang Pracharat Party member of Parliament.

The blaze started at around 2.30am on Friday (April 17) at Crossroad bar, a 70-year-old building made of wood and located in the city centre near Methi Hotel.

The fire spread quickly to four neighbouring buildings, including the house of the MP.The fire engine sent by Mae Hong Son Municipality could not control the flames so they called for help from neighbouring sub-districts to bring more fire engines.

Governor Suwaphong Kitiphatphibun later visited the scene to check the situation. He said because the fire had started in the heart of the town, the damage was serious.It was 4.20am before the fire was put out. Estimation of total damage and probe into the cause of the fire is underway.​

A very Sad thing to See! The History, Heritage and Memories all lost! I have been a Regular Visitor to this place ever since the first time I first visited MHS. So Upsetting!

A new building - house & shop going up.

Next door to the Crossroads was a clock / watch shop.
This family was the owner of the land?
They are building a new house & clock / watch shop on the site of their old premises.

The adjoining patch of land where the Crossroads stood will be vacant for the time being - no immediate plan for redevelopment.
