Another dual carriageway - Thoeng to Chun

Progress continues and seems to be at a rapid rate, on the north side of highway #1021 they are building the overhead bridge in an interesting way, its called a "Segmental Bridge"............................................ive been trying to understand how the segments are held together ?, well google helped me, you can see each segment has like male and female teeth formed into the concrete, once all these are positioned in place steel cables are pulled through each span (between support towers) using hydraulics and this locks them together, very interesting.


This first photo is heading out of Thoeng on highway #1020 towards Chiang Khong and the new traffic lights are just before the Thoeng License Centre (can see the DLT in the background) and then I turned right here and its all finished bitumen all the way to basically the bridge construction at highway #1021, there is about 150m of dirt road around the bridge, although you can turn left just before the bridge construction site and join onto the existing road that heads to the Thoeng Prison and get onto highway #1021 here.

Update 13th May 2024......................................................................


Progress continues and at a very steady pace, so much quicker than road construction back in Australia IMO........................the overhead bridge work in Thoeng is not far off being completed, already completed over highway #1021 and over the river, just a few short sections to go

All of these following photos where taken this morning and are on the South side of highway #1021, and heading south past the prawn farms, nearly all completed bitumen now and it looks awesome, hopefully it was designed to handle the heavy trucks that will be using it.......................................BTW the entrance to the prawn farm restaurants along this route are now off the old road which runs parallel to the new highway in some sections..................................if I feel like a ride later this week or next I might continue down and see if the road is all bitumen down to Chun, Ill report back

Interesting isn't it, how fast they can be sometimes & then other times painfully slow, using different contractors perhaps.
