The 30th annual Mae Chaem Teen Jok festival to promote Mae Chaem's ethnic culture & weaving handicrafts.
Mae Chaem is well-known for its Pha Teen Jok, which is distinctive because of its unique designs, vivid colours, and weaving technique. Reds, yellows, and other vivid colours predominate in distinctive Mae Chaem fabric. Traditionally, the Mae Chaem Pha Teen Jok, which is thickened to make every piece of cloth automatically double-sided, commands premium prices due to its unique weaving technique. Typically, only black or white thread is used to sew the cloth's edge.
These were a luxury garment, worn only on rare occasions by affluent women or those who knew how to weave their own cloth. Throughout generations of south Mae Chaem families, this intricate skill was taught from mother to daughter, with the designs being memorised and passed down.
