In Chiang Khong city the Hmong vendors are out in force selling new year costumes for the forth coming Hmong New Year.

Starting from 30 December they say.

7-11 January 2025 Huai Lang / Laeng has a big Hmong New Year party on.

This will be well worth checking out if you're interested in ethnic culture and festivals at all.

There are two Huai Lang / Laeng villages.
One on the mountain top by the Royal Project, and one in the valley at the bottom

A quiet Hmong New Year for me, as I prefer not to ride and travel too much over the "western new year."
Thung Phattana is a Hmong village just 5 km around the corner from my house in Chiang Khong city.

It was a low-key event at Thung Phattana.

A popular male Hmong guy got up to sing with a few mature ladies being the backing dancers.

The males had energetic top spinning contest.

Team green made an appearance.

Steve was impressed by the toddler on the back of bike.

The police made an appearance to thank the locals for staying home in the village and not having drunken young Hmong guys racing around on their bikes getting in crashes.
