All the road works on route 118 roughly from Mae Kachan - north are complete & R118 is an even better ride.
With the road so wide now you almost never get caught up in traffic, like you used to through the villages.
The only tricky bits are in the "twisties" north of Mae Suai where the road is incredibly slippery in many corners - watch out for the shiny black surface, darker & more shiny than the normal surface. Get on the gas a little harder coming out of corners & the back end will let go, or the front end start to slide. Keep it smooth & it can be fun, but be a bit harsh & it will get away from you.
