Motor bike options for 6 to 12 months , and ownership still confused

As this is a bike forum, hoping to get the right answers and advice. If you needed a bike for 6 months to a year , would you rent or buy ?
If, so new or used ?
On ownership, was told different options , With a tourist visa, and a long-term rent
