Laos: 6 Days North; loop via Pak Beng or loop via Phongsali?

I am planning a 6 day trip through Northern Laos starting from Luang Prabang. My question is whether we should choose a loop via the West or via the North-East?

The North-east looks a bit more appealing (more remote), but I fear that that
