Shell on Monday increased the retail prices of all types of fuel by 0.80 baht per litre. PTT and other distributors will raise their pump prices to the same level on Tuesday.
The new prices: gasohol 95 in Bangkok and vicinity 32.04 baht a litre; gasohol 91, 31.24 baht a litre; and diesel (B5) 26.59 baht a litre.
PTT's Retail Marketing Strategy manager Jackrich Charujinda said oil distributors had earlier decided to freeze pump prices so people could travel happily during the New Year's holiday.
"Oil prices in the global market are edging closer to US$80 a barrel, or about 78 per cent higher year-on-year, while oil prices in Singapore have moved up as well, resulting in a negative market value," Mr Jakrich said.
The market margin should be 1.70 baht a litre, he said.
He called on motorists to conserve fuel as oil prices were expected move up by two to three baht a litre this year.
