Well nowhere on the scale of the usual dam builds ;)

At the back of our house in Thoeng Chiang Rai runs a creek from the nearby mountains and flows into the Ing River, this creek only flows after wet season, and has water in it for maybe 3 x months of the year...................that might be different now as they have constructed a small dam to hold the water back up the creek.

The local rice paddies are often flooded with water from this creek, they run diesel water pumps to pump the water and get the crop started.........................every year seems to be less water and a slower start to the wet season

Lastyear my missus and her friend said there off fishing, I thought down to the river, nope they walked behind our house to the creek, I actually had a bit of a laugh to myself about there choice of fishing spots......................Well 2 x hours later they had filled there bucket with fish, and quite big, some 300mm long.................apparently the fish swim up the creeks in wet season from the Ing River to breed

I have noticed that these small dams are being built in quite a few creeks of the nearby villages..........................I walked down to the construction site with our dogs most afternoons to watch progress.................the construction period of about 8 x weeks was perfect timing as the wet season has only just started upon completion............................site works started at the end of May 2020...................

The completed dam with small walk bridge is now used daily by local rice farmers...........................this last photo is from our bedroom window so you can see how close the new dam is to our house :p

What a difference a week makes

This 1st photo was taken last Tuesday, and the following photos take on Monday, 6 x days later, after we received basically 36 x hours of non stop rain on the weekend, no storms, just constant heavy rain..........................hard to believe the local farmers were pumping water into their rice paddies last-week, this week there having to drain excess water because the rice paddies are flooded.

The few days of rain was very widespread, from Loei, Nan, Wiang Nuea, Lampang, Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai all reporting local flooding, the hwy 118 from CR to CM was washed out in 8 x places
