A rental bike from Thailand into Laos or Cambodia ??

I am curious about the exact documentation needed to get a rental bike with a Thai plate
into either Laos or Cambodia. I know it can be done, but I need to know the exact papers
that would be required at the border. Thanks for any information. Cheers
