On a little local ride this morning I headed down to Thoerd Thai with the intention of heading to Doi Tung. I turned right onto the 1334, some decent surface, some diabolical but after maybe 20kms found the road completely cut while they rebuild a bridge. A local lad indicated the little dirt path would get me through on my bike. I should have walked down and had a look but once I'd started there was no room to turn around. There was a very steep downhill with a 90 degree bend on dirt, then a 2 ft wide woven bamboo bridge. Of the bridge was 2m of dirt then another 90 deg bend onto a steep uphill that was damp red clay. My bike with smooth road tyres couldn't do it and I finally slid back on locked wheels right to the waters edge. I was totally stranded till two young akha men turned up and with me walking and operating clutch and throttle and them pushing we made it out. Out of breath, shaking like a leaf I gave them 100b, didn't go back for pictures and took the short route home.
