1149 Thai/myanmar Border Road - A Comparison (2015 / 2019)

A comparison video of the fantastic R1149 border road in Northern Thailand.
From October 2015 to May 2019. Showing how the road was prior to being resurfaced.
Thought you might find it interesting.

October 2015 was my first time to ride the route and I was a new rider on a manual bike, so I was quite nervous at the time!

I shall hopefully get around to doing another comparison video of the Wat Chan route to Pai compared to how it is today as well (again, completely resurfaced road now)

I’m not sure how long it took to do the vid but wow, fantastic effort.
Where wa the footage taken?
I did the 1149 last Xmas, heading from Mae Salong to Doi Tung and the road, especially the bit along the border before The crest,(Doi Tung)was very rough in places and broken. Coffee bushes in amongst the trees, razor wire, boom gates, nice soldiers and the great views looking down on Mae Sai valley through the 2 Doi’s

Im glad you asked, because Google Street Map actually shows an image from 2012, and the route seems much better in 2012 than 2015. Interesting to see!
