*Update: I rode over to Ban Hat Bai today to check festival arrangements. I'm advised the rocket festival has been cancelled due to air pollution concerns and that a Government directive to prohibit all rocket festivals this year is in place. The water pouring** part of the festival will be low key, in the main street, with private household parties only. *End update.
There will be a community celebration and bang fai on the bank of the Mekong River, in the (under construction) community area.
This is area is located immediately in front of the ฮักเมาโขง (Hug Mekong - blue cafe).
I am told that it will be an all day festival. I'll try and get more details in the next couple if days.
** One of the most meaningful traditions during Songkran is Rot Nam Dam Hua, a respectful water-pouring ceremony. This ceremony, steeped in tradition, is a powerful symbol of gratitude and respect. Younger family members pour scented water over the hands of their elders, expressing their deep respect. In return, they receive heartfelt blessings for health, happiness, and prosperity in the coming year. This reverence strengthens intergenerational connections and teaches younger generations the importance of respecting their elders.
